EU Update – Legal Insights from Europe’s Capital | October 2026 Edition #5

Welcome back to the fifth edition of EU Update, the monthly TerraLex newsletter developed by Gecić Law’s EU Law practice in Brussels, providing timely insights into key EU legislative and policy developments affecting businesses across the European Union’s 27 Member States and 450 million consumers.

The October edition explores three important developments shaping the EU regulatory landscape.  First, EU lawmakers are considering changes to extended producer responsibility (EPR) rules that could ease compliance obligations for EU-based SMEs while maintaining existing requirements for non-EU producers.  Second, the European Commission is scrutinizing whether KKR provided inaccurate or misleading information in its merger filing for the acquisition of NetCo, underscoring that regulatory scrutiny can continue even after authorities have cleared a transaction.  Finally, the EU has updated its air passenger rights framework, introducing new requirements that will change how airlines handle compensation claims, baggage, rerouting, and booking practices from October 2027.

Designed as a valuable resource for cross-border advisory work, EU Update combines high-level regulatory analysis with practical insights, helping TerraLex members anticipate emerging risks and opportunities for clients. It also connects members with TerraLex experts across Europe for more detailed, jurisdiction-specific guidance.
