Gecić Law has reached the finals of The Lawyer European Awards 2026 in a record five categories — the highest number in our history and the most nominations secured by any independent law firm headquartered in South Eastern Europe this year.
The result marks our ninth consecutive year in the finals and follows our 2025 victory as Law Firm of the Year: South Eastern Europe. It also extends a track record that now spans regional recognition, cross-border strategy, energy transition, finance, and litigation.
This year, Gecić Law competes in five categories, alongside some of the finest law firms on the continent:
Five finalist positions set a new benchmark for Gecić Law. Our previous record came in 2022, when we reached the finals in four categories and received the most nominations among competing law firms in Europe. In 2026, we have gone one step further.
The breadth of this year’s shortlist matters as much as the number. The five nominations recognize the firm as a whole, our international strategy, and three major practice areas. They also give Gecić Law more nominations than any other independent law firm headquartered in South Eastern Europe.
The Lawyer European Awards celebrate achievement across the European legal market and bring together leading independent and international firms from across the continent. The 2026 shortlist, therefore, places our teams alongside some of Europe’s most established practices.
Gecić Law returns to the regional final as the reigning Law Firm of the Year: South Eastern Europe. We won the 2025 title after earlier regional victories in 2021 and 2020, when the award covered Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
Our ninth consecutive appearance in the finals reflects the consistency of our development and the confidence that clients place in our team across increasingly complex regional and cross-border mandates.
The Cross-Border Strategy of the Year nomination recognizes an increasingly central dimension of how we serve clients. Gecić Law combines its Belgrade regional hub, Brussels presence, and international network to connect Southeast Europe with global markets. This approach builds a bridge between Southeast Europe, the EU, and wider global markets.
For an independent regional firm, recognition in this category carries particular significance. It places us alongside firms operating across some of the world’s most sophisticated legal markets.
Our first nomination for European Energy Transition Team of the Year adds a new dimension to our record at The Lawyer European Awards. The energy transition increasingly brings together regulation, infrastructure, finance, competition, environmental rules, and EU policy — areas in which clients need coordinated, forward-looking advice. It also highlights our role in major regional transactions and investments, including in renewable energy. The nomination also highlights the growing role of our energy and regulatory work as businesses across Southeast Europe respond to decarbonization, new investment models, and an expanding body of EU rules.
Our Finance team returns to the European finals after its previous nomination in 2024. The nomination recognizes the growing sophistication and international reach of our finance practice. It also highlights our team’s recent work on unique high-value transactions in the region that require commercial judgment, precise execution, and close coordination across disciplines, stakeholders and jurisdictions.
Gecić Law also returns to the finals for European Litigation Team of the Year, a category in which we competed in 2024 and in earlier editions of the Awards. The recognition reflects our team’s ability to handle uniquely complex, high stakes matters while combining rigorous legal analysis with a clear understanding of business and reputational risk.
The 2026 shortlist extends a run that began nine years ago and continues to broaden in scope. We have won three regional titles and set a four-category nomination record in 2022. We have reached the finals and earned Commended and Highly Commended recognition across the competition, corporate, finance, and litigation categories. Now we add cross-border strategy and energy transition to that history.
That progression reflects the firm we continue to build: independent, internationally connected, and able to bring together specialist teams around the issues that matter most to clients.
The Lawyer will announce the winners on Thursday, November 26, 2026, at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London.
