2025 at Gecić Law: Milestones, Momentum and a Decade of Excellence

As the year draws to a close, we celebrate the remarkable achievements that defined the Gecić Law journey through 2025.  Additionally, this year marked a full decade since our founding.  It indeed has been one of historic victories, groundbreaking ventures, and well-deserved accolades.  Our commitment to excellence, innovation, and client service has solidified our leading position across our region and beyond.  Let’s revisit a few of the milestones that made this year unforgettable.

Historic Legal Achievements

Telekom Srbija’s Landmark Telecom Acquisition We successfully supported Telekom Srbija in a landmark EUR 1.5 billion cross-border acquisition of strategic digital media assets and sports broadcasting rights from United Group.  This precedent-setting deal reshaped the regional telecommunications landscape.  It also demonstrated that world-class, high-value transactions can originate from the Balkans under the guidance of regional firms.  This was more than just a deal.  It was, as our Founding Partner noted, “a turning point” for the entire region.  The transaction raised the bar for legal services and inspired greater confidence in home-grown talent.

Arena Channels Group Triumphs in Competition Case Gecić Law secured a landmark legal victory for its client, Arena Channels Group (ACG), in a high-profile antitrust case in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  The Court of BiH delivered a definitive ruling in favor of ACG.  It dismissed in full the allegations regarding Premier League football broadcasting rights.  This outcome underscores our team’s precision and strategic insight in complex competition matters.  It follows other successes for ACG in the region.  It also highlights our ability to navigate complex legal challenges to deliver exceptional client outcomes.

Landmark Deals

EBRD & ENEF II’s Smart Energy Investment Our firm played an integral role in a significant green financing deal supporting Serbia’s growing renewable sector.  We advised the EBRD and the ENEF II fund on a €9.1 million loan to Meter & Control, a Serbian smart energy metering company.  This strategic investment will boost the company’s production capacity, positioning it as a regional leader in smart metering.  As local counsel, our Banking & Finance team handled all aspects, ensuring smooth execution in compliance with Serbian law.  The project exemplifies our commitment to supporting innovative businesses.  It also builds on our ongoing collaboration with EBRD/ENEF, following previous financing deals.

VegaIT’s global expansion We continued to support clients in other areas throughout 2025.  From cutting-edge technology deals to transformative foreign investments, our teams ensured seamless execution of complex cross-border projects.  Each deal reinforced our reputation for facilitating growth and fostering international partnerships.  An illustrative example is our support to VegaIT in their international expansion spanning the MEA region.

Gecić Law at the Forefront of Emerging Legal Trends

Pioneering Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) Expertise Gecić Law has been leading the region in navigating the EU’s new climate-driven trade measures.  In 2025, we hosted the first Regional Conference on the EU CBAM Regulation.  The event brought together key stakeholders to examine the implications of the EU CBAM regulation for the Western Balkans.  It focused on the challenges and opportunities the mechanism presents for export-oriented economies in the region.  The conference created a platform for much needed discussion between all stakeholders.

Spearheading AI and Tech Law Initiatives As the first law firm in the region to launch a dedicated Artificial Intelligence & Robotics practice, Gecić Law remains at the cutting edge of the AI revolution in law.  This year, our AI team continued to provide expert guidance on while exploring advanced tech solutions to enhance our services.  We have been actively involved in shaping the regulatory discourse around AI – including regulatory work as new frameworks take shape.  Our firm’s early investment in understanding emerging legal areas has positioned us as a go-to advisor for clients.

The Lawyer European Awards 2025 – Our Third Victory Gecić Law once again set a benchmark for excellence on the European stage.  In a proud moment at The Lawyer European Awards 2025, our firm won the distinguished title of Law Firm of the Year: South Eastern Europe – for the third time.  Gecić Law stood out as one of the continent’s most dynamic and progressive firms.

This victory reinforces our position at the forefront of legal innovation.  It marks yet another milestone in our long-running story of growth and excellence.  Notably, 2025 marked the eighth consecutive year that Gecić Law has been recognized as an Awards finalist.  This positions us among the top 1-2% of firms in Europe.  Reaching the finals in multiple categories this year further highlighted the breadth of our capabilities across disciplines.   Wins in 2020 and 2021, a nominations record in 2022, and finals in 2023-2024 all led up to this triumph.  Together, these achievements signal a firm that continues to grow in sophistication and vision, consistently outperforming expectations on a global stage.

Legal 500 EMEA 2025 Rankings – Continuous Progress In the Legal 500 EMEA 2025 guide, Gecić Law secured outstanding rankings across the board.  The firm was again placed among the elite, earning Top Tier status in core practice areas including Competition, Corporate/Commercial, Projects & Energy, and Dispute Resolution.  Notably, we also garnered new recognition in Banking & Finance and Real Estate & Construction, listed as a “Firm to Watch” in these increasingly important sectors for our practice.  This expanded footprint in Legal 500 reflects our growing capabilities and the trust of our clients in a broader range of services.

Chambers & Partners 2025 – Elevating Our Standing Gecić Law not only maintained its longstanding rankings but achieved significant milestones.  Chambers recognized our founder Bogdan Gecić as a leading individual in Competition/Antitrust as well as in Projects, Infrastructure & Energy.  Partner Ognjen Colić remains highlighted by Chambers as a leading Corporate/M&A practitioner.  These accolades underscore our firm’s ability to deliver top-tier results that resonate both regionally and beyond, and they affirm that innovation and client dedication remain at the heart of everything we do.

Lexology (Who’s Who Legal) 2025 Achievements This year, our team achieved remarkable success in the renamed Lexology Index, with multiple attorneys earning prestigious rankings.  Bogdan Gecić was again recognized as a Thought Leader in M&A and Governance and continues to shine in Competition law.  Partner Ognjen Colić reached new heights this year.  He entered the Banking report as one of two lawyers in Serbia to be ranked in the field, both of whom are from Gecić Law.  He is also ranked in two other areas, including M&A and Governance and Environment and Climate Change.  Our esteemed Partner Miodrag Jevtić was likewise recognized in the Lexology 2025 Banking & Fintech edition, reflecting nearly two decades of experience and significant contributions to clients across industries.

Miloš Petaković, who leads our Real Estate practice, continues earning accolades in the area.  Additionally, Vuk Leković was honored as a Future Leader in Competition law.  This is a testament to his reputation as one of the region’s top up-and-coming antitrust experts.  Vuk’s recognition reflects his tremendous contributions in Competition, EU law, and our sports practice.

Benchmark Litigation Europe 2025 – Returning to the Directory Gecić Law also earned high honors in the dispute resolution arena.  Our firm was ranked among top firms in Dispute Resolution by Benchmark Litigation Europe.  Additionally, our our Founding Partner Bogdan Gecić was distinguished as a “Litigation Star” in the 2025 guide. In a crowning achievement, Bogdan won the Serbia Litigator of the Year at the Benchmark Litigation Europe Awards 2025.  The awards ceremony in London saw Gecić Law receive three nominations – more than any other firm in Serbia.  Nominations included Firm of the Year and a Litigator of the Year for our partner Miodrag Jevtić.  Bogdan’s victory is a powerful acknowledgment of his leadership and the innovative approach our team brings to high-stakes disputes.  This exemplifies the combination of individual excellence and collective effort that define us.

Development Initiatives

Brussels Office – A Landmark Expansion In 2025, Gecić Law achieved a historic milestone by establishing an office in Brussels, becoming the first independent law firm from the CEE and Balkans region to plant its flag in the EU’s capital.  This expansion serves as a strategic bridge between Southeast Europe and Brussels.  It enhances our capacity to support clients in competition law, regulatory compliance, and other fields at the European level.

Leading our Brussels presence is Anne MacGregor, who joined as Partner and Head of the Brussels Office.  Anne is a world-class EU law expert with over 30 years of experience, among the Top 100 Women in Antitrust globally.  This move not only strengthens our ability to directly engage with EU institutions but also symbolizes our firm’s pioneering spirit: from being the first in our region with dedicated ESG and AI practices, to now the first with an independent office at the heart of the EU.  It’s about more than geography – it reflects our vision that businesses and governments in the Western Balkans and beyond deserve the highest quality legal support, both locally grounded and globally informed.  The Brussels office positions Gecić Law as a truly pan-European firm ready to navigate the complexities of EU law and policy for our clients.

Launch of Dedicated Sports Law Practice After years of deep involvement in sports-related cases, Gecić Law further formalized its expertise by launching a new Sports Law practice group in 2025.  This unique practice is led by Vuk Leković, who has been a key figure in many of our high-profile sports matters.  The creation of a Sports Law team demonstrates our commitment to staying ahead of emerging client needs and providing top-tier counsel in niche industries.  The practice encompasses a wide range of areas.  This includes sports governance and compliance, media rights, player contracts, event management, and sports-related disputes.  Earlier successes in this area underscored the need for a formal Sports Law platform.

Executive Governance and Leadership Evolution In 2025, Gecić Law further strengthened its institutional foundations by establishing an Executive Management Committee, marking a significant step in the firm’s continued maturation and long-term strategic development.  The EMC supports the increasingly complex operations, ensures cross-practice coordination, and execution of the firm’s growth strategy.

As part of this governance evolution, Nataša Mitrović joined the team as European Head of Human Resources & Operations.  She leads the firm’s people and operational strategy, overseeing talent development, organizational design, performance systems, and culture-building initiatives.  Additionally, Milana Srećkov joined as the European Head of Strategy.  She is responsible for driving the firm’s European growth strategy, encompassing geographic expansion, strategic partnerships, and service development.  These advancements, alongside the arrival of Anne MacGregor, create depth of leadership as the firm continues to scale.

Team Milestones

Promotions and Talent Development Throughout 2025, Gecić Law continued to invest in its people, reinforcing its culture of meritocracy and early responsibility.  In addition to Vuk Leković’s promotion to Counsel, the firm promoted Luka Džordeski to Senior Associate.  This is a testament to his exceptional performance and the firm’s readiness to reward impact and excellence irrespective of tenure.

Bogdan Gecić – Institutional, Regional, and Global Leadership Bogdan Gecić continued in 2025 to play a prominent role in shaping legal, economic, and technological discourse at the regional and international levels.  His engagements included participation in high-level transatlantic initiatives such as the Southeast Europe Transatlantic Economic Forum.  He contributed to discussions on investment, regulatory alignment and growth.  Bogdan was also appointed Vice President of the Harvard Law School Association of Europe, reflecting his standing within elite global legal and academic circles.  He was also selected for the Perplexity AI Business Fellowship, positioning him among a select group of global leaders.  This is closely aligned with the development of the firm’s pioneering AI practice.  His continued leadership role within TerraLex, as Vice-Chair for Europe, further reinforced Gecić Law’s position as a key regional hub within an elite international alliance.

Taboroši Scholarship 2025/26 Continuing our proud tradition of nurturing future legal talent, Gecić Law announced the Taboroši Scholarship for 2025.  This prestigious annual scholarship reflects our commitment to supporting the next generation of legal professionals.  This year, we organized a workshop on AI in law as part of the scholarship competition.  We look forward to selecting a winner and watching their career take flight.  The Taboroši Scholarship initiative remains a cornerstone of our firm’s social responsibility efforts.  It is indeed an honor to carry forward this legacy of educational excellence each year.

10th Anniversary Celebration

Gecić Law closed out 2025 on a celebratory note, marking a decade since the firm’s founding by gathering clients, partners, and friends to honour ten years of shared success, collaboration, and mutual trust.  This milestone celebration honored the firm’s deep relationships and appreciation for the support that has fueled its growth and impact over the past ten years, reflecting not just achievements in legal excellence but also the strong community of clients and collaborators that has accompanied the firm’s journey since 2015</span>.

As we celebrate a decade of excellence and our achievements in 2025, we indeed remain resolutely focused on the future.  In the coming year and beyond, we aim to further build on our successes.  We will further explore new frontiers and continue to drive excellence across all our legal services.  Our plans for 2026 include further expanding our regional and global footprint.  We also intend to leverage our new Brussels hub and international alliances to connect clients with opportunities worldwide.  We will continue investing in cutting-edge practice areas, ensuring that we can guide our clients through uncharted legal terrain.  Above all, our commitment to delivering unparalleled client support remains unwavering.
