Gecić Law Enters the US Legal Talent Market: A Milestone for the Firm and the Region

Gecić Law enters the US legal talent market by engaging with leading U.S. law schools and international recruitment platforms.  This marks a defining milestone for the firm and for the broader legal profession in Serbia and Southeast Europe.  Gecić Law is the first independent law firm in Southeastern Europe to take this step.  We participated in a virtual career fair with Columbia Law School and the International Student Interview Program (ISIP) at NYU School of Law.  With these activities, Gecić Law is making a strong statement.  We believe that globally competitive legal careers can be built from our region, with international reach and ambition.

Why This Moment Matters

Gecić Law’s presence in this environment is not merely symbolic.  It reflects Gecić Law’s long-term strategic vision.  Top-tier, internationally competitive legal work can develop from the Balkans, Southeast Europe and Brussels.  Teams that combine local depth with global training and perspective are the ones that can achieve these objectives.  Gecić Law’s long-term strategy is to attract globally trained talent and demonstrate that sophisticated, cross-border legal work can be led from this region.

Reconnecting Global Talent with the Region

Central to this initiative is outreach to exceptional LLM graduates and law students in the United States.  This particularly applies to those with ties to Southeast Europe.  The goal is not short-term recruitment, but the creation of meaningful, sustainable career paths.  This would allow young lawyers to apply the jurisdictions they studied while contributing to the long-term development of the regional legal market.  The strong interest from candidates confirms that the region is increasingly viewed as an attractive professional destination.  Further, the Balkans and Southeastern Europe are seen as an effective bridge to broader European and international legal practice.

Media Coverage and Regional Significance

ISIP is one of the most established and respected international recruitment programs for LLM students, connecting top candidates from leading law schools with prominent legal employers worldwide and Gecić Law’s participation garnered much attention.  The broader importance of this step attracted the attention of Newsmax Balkans, which described Gecić Law’s participation at ISIP as a historic first for a law firm from the Balkans.  Commenting on the significance of the event, Nataša Mitrović, European Head of HR & Operations at Gecić Law, noted:

“This is the first time that a law firm from the Balkan region has participated in an event such as ISIP.  It is an important moment not only for Gecić Law, but for Serbia as well.”

As emphasized in the coverage, the initiative demonstrates that the Serbian legal market has both the capacity and the credibility to compete internationally for top-tier legal talent—marking an important step forward for the profession as a whole.
